Summer is upon us. It is a time for sun, sand and fruity drinks by the pool. However, as the June and July months come to a close, we begin to relive the frightening moments leading up to last year’s Hurricane Hermine. We are seeing storms starting to form in the Atlantic. The City of Tallahassee is instructing its citizens on where to fill up sand bags. Our minds start racing as we plan for the worst.

While protecting friends and family is the ultimate priority, the staff here at Aegis Business Technologies have an important mission as we continue through this year’s hurricane season. That mission is to ensure that our customers are prepared for whatever disaster comes there way.

We try to challenge professionals in the business community to ask themselves the tough questions, such as — “Is my business prepared if a devastating storm were to hit?” or “Do we have a plan in the event of total power loss or communication disruption?”

Backup Disaster Recovery (BDR) is extremely important for any business. Your BDR Plan should be a comprehensive set of protocols and procedures in place, should a disaster occur. We have seen electrical fires destroy entire offices and flooding that has put critical network equipment in several inches of water. And while a strong BDR plan can come in handy after a powerful storm, it can also serve as protection from Cyber Attacks.

Cyber Security has made its way into the mainstream news…and it seems that everywhere you look, there’s a story about cyber criminals hacking and stealing top secret information.

In the world of small-to-medium sized businesses, we are seeing an increase in this same kind of criminal activity in our community, leaving businesses wide-open to the most vicious cyber security threats.

Besides having a robust Backup Disaster Recovery Plan in place, remember that it is important to stay educated on Cyber Security (This includes researching online, or reaching out to local IT professionals like Aegis, if you have questions). Staying educated on these topics can be difficult, so Aegis is providing a way to make it a little easier. Now, by visiting our website, social media pages, or our YouTube channel, you can access informative and educational videos.
